Manchester United have made some terrific progress under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past few seasons. At the start of this campaign, not many would have expected them to sit at second in the Premier League table at this stage of the season.
But with 10 games to go, they are 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City. And although it is still improbable that they will end up lifting the title at the end of the season, their 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday at least kept their title hopes alive.
The Red Devils should also take a lot of confidence from that win. They came into the game on the back of three straight goalless draws but put in a brilliant performance to end City’s 21-game winning streak.
Now, eventually Guardiola’s side might end up winning the Premier League. But it is undeniable that United have made great progress and it might not be too long before they are back on top of English football. Encouragingly, the club is progressing in the right direction off the pitch as well.

Darren Fletcher made the first technical director of Manchester United
Fletcher spent a very successful time at Old Trafford as a player, making 342 appearances for the Red Devils and winning 13 trophies as well. He was already a member of Solskjaer’s backroom staff. And as reported by ESPN, he has now been made the club’s first technical director.
On the other hand, John Murtough has been appointed as their first football director. He has been with the club for the past seven years, having been brought in by David Moyes.
It is great to see Manchester United appointing people in these positions, which have grown in prominence in football over the past several years. It is important to keep evolving with the times in order to remain successful and that is exactly what the Red Devils are doing.
