Kalidou Koulibaly has been considered as one of the best defenders in the world for quite some time now. As a result, it is no surprise that he has been linked with a move to some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Manchester United, over the past few seasons.

The move has never quite transpired though and he has remained at Napoli, who he joined back in 2014. That could change this summer.

The global pandemic has had an impact on clubs around the world. And it looks like Napoli could now be open to the idea of letting Koulibaly leave in order to balance the books. Not too long ago, the Senegal international was valued at over €100 million. But he could be available for around €45 million this summer, according to Il Mattino and as reported by the Mirror.

Bayern Munich were thought to be one of the clubs interested in Koulibaly. But transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has confirmed that the the Bundesliga giants are not working on a deal for him at this point of time:

Koulibaly would be a massive signing for Manchester United

There is no denying the fact that Koulibaly is one of the best centre-backs on the planet and while Romano did not name the Premier League clubs who are interested in him, it would not be surprising if Manchester United are one of them.

Defence has been viewed as a weakness for the Red Devils in recent years and they are expected to go after a new centre-back in the summer, to be Harry Maguire’s partner at the back. And it is safe to say that they would be delighted if they can sign someone with the quality of Koulibaly.

The Senegal international would instantly make the team’s defence better and transform them into Premier League contenders. Although, with 10 games left to be played, you cannot completely count out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team this season either. Especially after their brilliant 2-0 win over Manchester City.
