Manchester United have been linked with a number of defenders over the past several months. Unfortunately, it is understandable considering the fact that they have struggled at the back once again this season and will most probably will look for a new centre-back in the summer.

One man whose name has been constantly linked with the Red Devils in recent months is that of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. The Frenchman has been an absolute revelation over the past couple of seasons and is drawing interest from clubs all over Europe.

He is believed to have a massive £68 million release clause in his contract though and it looks like Sevilla will be looking for a club to activate that in order to sign the 22-year-old in the summer.

In the midst of a global pandemic, you have to wonder whether Manchester United would be willing to do that. And as a result, they must be looking towards alternatives as well. And according to La Razon (via Sport Witness), Villarreal’s Pau Torres might be that man for the Red Devils.

Torres can prove to be a shrewd signing for Manchester United

While it is not known how much Villarreal will demand for the Spanish centre-back, it is sure to be lower than Kounde’s astronomical £68 million release clause.

That does not mean that Torres is not a good player though. He has managed to establish himself in the Spanish national team and been a regular for the La Liga side for a couple of seasons now. He is also 6′ 4″ and has almost six inches on Kounde, which might help in the Premier League.

Thus, while Kounde might be the man in demand at the moment, it might not be a bad idea on the part of United to go after Torres. He has been linked with the Red Devils on multiple occasions in the past as well and it could be the perfect time to finally bring him to Old Trafford in a quest to solidify their defence.
