Manchester United made a brilliant start to their season and even managed to reach the top of the Premier League table, a position not many would have expected them to be capable of reaching, a few months ago.
Since then though, a string of disappointing results and performances have meant that they have slid down the table. As things stand, they sit 10 points behind leaders Manchester City and level on points with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
One of the stars whose position in the team has come under question in recent weeks is David de Gea. The Spaniard has been a mainstay between the sticks at Old Trafford for almost a decade now but his performance levels have dropped considerably over the past few seasons.
Mistakes have crept into his game and while he was considered as one of the best keepers in the world not too long ago, he is surely no longer anywhere near that conversation these days. And it looks like he might be close to losing his place in the starting XI as well if things don’t improve quickly.

Solskjaer might be finally set to give Henderson his Manchester United chance
Dean Henderson was spectacular away on loan at Sheffield United and established himself as one of the best young keepers in the Premier League. Ever since returning to Old Trafford, he has not been given the opportunity to showcase those skills though as he has spent most of his time warming the bench.
That could change soon though as Solskjaer admitted that he was in the running to start against Newcastle United, as reported by the Irish Mirror:
"“Of course Dean is in with a shout. We’ll pick a team Saturday and Dean was very solid against Sociedad.“He had good kicking, he should have had an assist for Marcus Rashford, which is another thing we’ve worked on.“He was clean in his handling, clean with his short passes, produced a good performance and is maturing all the time.“But I also have a very, very good goalkeeper in David and he saved us against West Brom, so I can’t say to you now [who will start].“I always speak to the players first before I say who’s not playing, so they’ll know.”"
This could be a massive warning to De Gea. The Spaniard needs to improve he wants to remain as the main man between the sticks for the Red Devils. Otherwise, it might not be too long before he is the one behind Henderson in the pecking order.
