After failing to secure some of their other targets, Donny van de Beek arrived at Manchester United back in last September to much fanfare but has since found himself on the bench more often than not. But it is clear that since his arrival, the Dutchman is yet to make the impact that everyone had hoped for.
Van de Beek is struggling to find his place in the current United team with only 12 appearances this season so far and a single goal to his name in the Premier League. Although with Bruno Fernandes performing at a world class level on a consistent basis, it is no surprise that the Dutch midfielder has not managed to nail down a spot in the first-team.
Van de Beek featured in United’s FA Cup fixture against West Ham United, but was subbed off as Fernandes came on in the 73rd minute with the game still goalless. Despite being allowed significant time on the pitch, he failed to create much of an impact, which won’t do his future chances any good.
And Manchester United legend Mark Hughes believes that his teammates do not trust Van de Beek enough yet, which could be another reason for his slow start.

Is Donny van de Beek yet to be trusted at Manchester United?
According to the reports from Express, Hughes pointed out that he is not given enough of the ball yet and is not doing much without it either, when it comes to his movement and positioning:
"“You just sense… it looks like they don’t trust him with the ball yet.“When the likes of Fred and Matic look up and they see Rashford, they see Martial, they see Greenwood, who is still a young player but has great talent, it’s like they defer to them, their first thought is to pass to them.“Van de Beek, I haven’t seen a great deal of movement, I haven’t seen little movements to get in pockets of space, even though you suspect that’s the player he is and those are the areas he wants to work in.“He’s been disappointing again. He’s playing for Manchester United, a huge club, he’s got to show more than he’s showing at the moment.”"
At this moment, it will be difficult for the Dutchman to climb the pecking order at Old Trafford, considering that he is yet to gain the confidence of his teammates, but Solskjaer appears to have huge plans for the Dutchman in future and it might be next season that we see the best of the former Ajax man.
