It is no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to have Erling Haaland at Manchester United. The pair spent some time together at Molde and it is clear that the Norwegian manager rates the striker very highly.

Since then, Haaland has grown in leaps and bounds, and might very well be one of the best strikers in the world right now. His statistics over the past two seasons do make a very compelling argument in his favour.

Since the start of 2019/2020, the striker has scored 66 goals and provided 16 assists. Remarkable numbers for a player who is still just 20 years old. What is even more remarkable is the fact that 16 of those goals came in the Champions League and from just 12 appearances.

Clearly, most of Europe’s elite clubs would love to have Haaland, when or if he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United are one of those clubs. And although Solskjaer refused to comment on those links, he did not rule out any move for the youngster either. While speaking with VG and as reported by 90 Min, he said:

"“It is clear that Erling will have a fantastic career. I’m following Erling. I’ve always said that.“Was it 18 months we had together or something? Almost two years, maybe. A wonderful time. He will definitely have a great career for both Norway and his club. He is doing incredibly well for Dortmund, so we’ll see where he ends up. As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, it is of course fun that he does so well.“We will do what we can to become a better team. He will do what he can to become a better player. Where does he end up? I do not want to say anything other than that. I wish him all the best. Whatever choice he makes is up to him.”"

Haaland would be a massive hit at Manchester United

Solskjaer is believed to have a great relationship with Haaland, which could play in Manchester United’s favour in any future move. But then, his association with Mino Raiola could also make things complicated.

As we all know, the club does not share the greatest relationship with the super agent, which is evident from Paul Pogba’s time at Old Trafford. He even came out publicly at the start of the season to announce that the Frenchman was looking to move in the near future. Thus, it might be difficult to bring Haaland to Manchester.

And they won’t be without competition for his signature either. Both Chelsea and Manchester City have been heavily linked with the Norwegian in recent months, and it is expected that many more clubs will be as the summer transfer window draws nearer.
