Defence has been a key area of weakness at Manchester United for quite some time now. And it is expected that the club will get a high profile centre-back in the summer in order to solve their problems at the back. Who better to do that than Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos?

The Spaniard has been one of the best defenders in the world for over a decade now. During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, he has lifted four Champions League titles and has been included in FIFA’s FIFPro World 11 an astounding eleven times through the course of his storied career.

It does not look like he will retire at Real Madrid though as he is yet to extend his contract with the club, which will run out at the end of the season. And a couple of days ago, rumours started to spread that he was days away from confirming a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United.

That has been confirmed to be false by highly respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. He tweeted out:

Sergio Ramos could be just what Manchester United need

At times it has appeared that there is a lack of a leader in the The Red Devils’ team who can organise them properly in defensive situations. This has led to their weakness when up against set pieces, which has continued to haunt them through the course of the season.

Signing someone like Ramos would immediately solve that issue. He is one of the best leaders in the history of the game and dominant in the air in both boxes. Thus, it will solve United’s issues while also providing them with an attacking weapon as well.

Now, some might be concerned that Ramos is too old to adjust to the Premier League. All of them just need to look at the transition that Thiago Silva has made ever since moving to Chelsea and the Brazilian is easily one of the best defenders in the league right now.

Of course, it will not be easy for the Red Devils to get hold of the Spanish legend. Paris Saint-Germain appear to be very interested as well and as we know, the French giants are used signing who they want more often than not.
