There was hardly any contrast one could draw between the move of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United and the one involving Edinson Cavani earlier this season.

Cavani was the second fiddle to Ibrahimovic during his earlier days at PSG and to Neymar Jr after that. While joining the Red Devils, the Uruguayan might have thought that he would be the second fiddle to Anthony Martial as well.

And on the back of what was marked as a ‘panic buy’ on the deadline day of the summer transfer window, ‘El Matador’ had not looked anything special until the Premier League game against Southampton.

Coming on as a substitute at half-time, he not only scored a brace in a dramatic 3-2 victory but showcased his passion and professionalism for the club as well. Since that game, there has been no looking back for the 33-year-old Uruguayan at Old Trafford.

Edinson Cavani’s future apparently lies away from Manchester United

According to a report from ESPN Argentina, Boca Juniors are interested in signing Edinson Cavani in 2022. His current contract at Manchester United will keep the goal poacher until the end of the ongoing season.

The report believes there is an option of a one-year extension in Cavani’s contract, which the Red Devils will be looking to trigger sooner rather than later after his impressive performances since arriving at Old Trafford.

On the other hand, Boca Juniors’ club president Juan Roman Riquelme, as told by a renowned Argentine journalist in Augusto Cezar, have begun informal talks with Manchester United in a bid to sign Cavani in 2022, Riquelme’s last year as the Genoese’s president.

Ever since moving to Old Trafford, Cavani has scored 7 times and registered two assists to his name in 23 games across all competitions.

A confident talker and a motivator both on and off the field, the current holder of United’s ‘iconic no 7’ shirt has been a positive influence on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Boca Juniors currently have two former United players in the form of Marcos Rojo and Carlos Tevez in their ranks. And the highest scorer in PSG’s history could well be another addition in the future.

But before that, it would be his intention to do well and win some trophies in England and eliminate any fears of a miserable spell that his former teammate,  Zlatan Ibrahimovic, had to endure in his second year at the club.
