Manchester United have made a strong start to their Premier League campaign and still sit at second in the table, but it cannot be denied that they have lost some ground over the last several weeks when it comes to the title race.
The Red Devils have drawn three and lost one of their last 6 leagues, which has left them 5 points behind Manchester City, who have a game in hand as well. As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will have to depend on their city rivals slipping up in order to return to the top of the league once again.
Their recent results have also allowed the chasing pack to catch up to them as well. Leicester City have spurned their multiple chances to go ahead of them and still find themselves 2 points behind United. Liverpool have been even worse form and sit 5 points adrift of their long-time rivals. Chelsea have cut the gap to just 6 points though while Everton will also have the opportunity to do so depending on what they do in their two games in hand.
Fans will be still hoping that the Red Devils can regain their form and go on another charge soon. Solskjaer does not believe that they are title contenders though. As reported by GOAL, he said:
"“We are not talking about winning titles. We have come a long way, this team.“We should not even be considered as title chasers. That is more talk that you (the media) are saying.“We need to be better as a team and see where we end up. Going forward, we need to stop conceding easy goals.”"

Are Manchester United really out of the title race?
Now, this might just be a case of the manager trying to play things down and relieve some of the pressure that has built up on his players. You have to remember that they were doing much better when they were under the radar and not being considered as genuine title contenders. But since they went top of the table, their results have not been as impressive.
Of course, one could argue that their performances have never been very impressive this season and they were just finding ways to win games even when they were not doing particularly. It was effective but not something that could last.
We believe that they could still regain that form though. And if they do, they still have a great chance to lift the Premier League title come May. Sooner or later, Manchester City are bound to have a few bad results as well and that is when Solskjaer’s men must make it count.
