Manchester United are flying high at the moment and even registered a Premier League record-equalling 9-0 win over Southampton a couple of days ago. Now, fans are truly expecting the club to challenge Manchester City for the title this season.

While their recent results might be brilliant, it is undeniable though that there are still certain holes in this squad that need to be fixed. And that makes the job that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done, even more commendable.

But next season, the club will be expected to sign a new centre-back. While the pairing of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire has done well this season, it is undeniable that there are occasions that they can come undone, especially against the top teams.

One man who has been linked with the Red Devils for a long time now is Nikola Milenkovic. The club’s interest in him goes back as far back as Jose Mourinho’s time as manager. And now, they might finally have the chance to get their man.

Manchester United might finally sign Nikola Milenkovic next summer

As reported by Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) the Serbian’s contract with Fiorentina runs out in 2022 and he is not expected to renew his deal, opening a chance for Manchester United to swoop in next summer when the Italian side will most probably be looking to get a transfer fee out of Milenkovic’s inevitable departure. The Red Devils have been described as being ‘in pole position’ for his signature.

While it might feel like he has been around for a long time, Milenkovic is still just 23 years of age. But despite that, he already has 162 first-team appearances under his belt and cannot be considered an inexperienced defender by any stretch of the imagination.

United will have to overcome some serious competition if they want to sign him next summer though as Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus are all interested as well.
