After managing just one win from their past four Premier League matches, most Manchester United fans would have been happy with three points against Southampton. Instead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men delivered a performance which will be talked about for years to come as they handed The Saints a 9-0 defeat.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were all on the scoresheet for the Red Devils in a historic win and it was extremely hard to pick anything that did not go to plan on the night for Solskjaer.
His decision to substitute Cavani and Shaw at half-time might have raised a few eyebrows though. Both of them were playing very well and as a result, there was a fear that the duo had picked up injuries during the first 45 minutes of action.
Fortunately, it does not appear to be a serious issue though and both were precautionary substitutions from the manager more than anything else as the game had already been won.
The news will be a huge relief to Manchester United fans
As reported by the Mirror, Solskjaer said of Cavani after the game:
"“He was good, but he got a bad tackle on his ankle so there was no point taking any risks.”"

The news was even more positive when it comes to the incident Shaw:
"“With Luke, the intensity, the sprint, and high-speed running, we felt the spaces that appeared for him, if he played in the second-half the same way he played in the first-half you always run a risk.”"
This will come as a huge relief to Manchester United fans as both of them have been a huge part of this team in the ongoing campaign and it would have been a massive loss if either of them were sidelined with an injury at this point of time.
Cavani might very well be the first-choice striker at Old Trafford right now as Martial has misfired throughout the course of the season, although he did find the back of the net twice last night. On the other hand, Shaw has been absolutely sensational since the arrival of Telles in the summer and appears to have unlocked a level of his game which we had not seen before.
