Basaksehir Bullet
There are a lot of Bruno Fernandes goals to choose from since he arrived at the club. Whilst the strike against Brighton was a culmination of a wonderful team move, his first goal against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League was all about Bruno.
After Alex Telles’ corner was only cleared to the edge of the box, Fernandes took it upon himself to hammer the ball into the roof of the net on the half volley. From his extensive catalogue of goals, this may be the best looking of the lot.
Brighton Brilliance
The football played by Manchester United during Project Restart is arguably the best the team have looked during Solskjaer’s tenure. During an impressive run of form, United picked up a 3-0 win away at Brighton – with the third goal being a goal of the season contender for the club.
It was a devastating example of the type of football the team wanted to play. A breath-taking counterattack started by a Harry Maguire header, and continued by Nemanja Matic’s sweeping ball out to Mason Greenwood. Two touches later and the teenager had sent an inch perfect ball to the back post for an arriving Fernandes to volley home.
It was United at their scintillating best, so it’s no wonder that Bruno had the decisive touch.
Last Day vs Leicester City
It wouldn’t be a list of Bruno Fernandes’ best Manchester United moments if it didn’t include at least one penalty.
Penalties need to be scored. It is difficult to score them on a consistent basis. These are two facts that the rival fans like to ignore when it comes to creating the ‘Penandes’ narrative. Taking them in high pressure situations is also a skill that should be commended, and United’s biggest penalty of the season came on the last day of the season away to Leicester City.
Score, and United secure Champions League football. Miss, and give The Foxes the chance to stop United finishing in the top four altogether. With the stakes at their highest, Bruno placed the ball on the spot. Hop, skip, and you know the rest.
