Most of Manchester United’s transfer business in this window has revolved around letting go of players who have been struggling to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team. One player they would have been keen to keep hold of though is Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch midfielder was signed in the summer for a transfer fee of around €40 million excluding add-ons. But he has failed to justify that investment yet.

Van de Beek has spent most of his time since arriving at Old Trafford, sitting on the bench. And it is not hard to understand why, since Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes appear to be in the form of their lives at the moment.

As a result, it is unlikely that the Dutchman will get too many minutes on the pitch in the second half of this season and naturally, exit rumours already started to make the rounds in the media. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed though that the player won’t be leaving this month, ruling out any potential deadline day transfer:

Van de Beek will stay at Manchester United

This will be quite a relief to Manchester United fans, who would surely love for the Dutchman to get a fair shot in the first-team. Now, it is unlikely that that will happen this season, with the presence of Pogba and Fernandes.

But the Frenchman is expected to leave the club in the summer. As a result, Van de Beek could very well take his place in Solskjaer’s team. In fact, it is very likely that that was the plan when the club signed him from Ajax.

While he might not have made an impact at Old Trafford yet, it is far to early to judge him as a signing. It was always expected that a player like him would take time to adjust to English conditions before showing the fans what he is capable of. So, expect that to happen next season.
