Wayne Rooney makes bold Manchester United title prediction
While cherishing Wayne Rooney’s stay at Manchester United, it takes us back to February 12, 2011 – almost nine years behind.
The scoreboard was showed 1-1 in a Manchester Derby. Recently-strengthened Manchester City, brimming with confidence, had managed to come back from a goal down, thanks to David Silva’s equaliser.
After Nani’s opening goal got cancelled out by what BBC Sport worded as ‘Silva’s fortunate leveller’, it had looked like the game had witnessed everything that a derby demands and it was heading towards a stalemate.
Then came Manchester United’s talisman Wayne Rooney. When the clock hit the 78th-minute mark, Rooney went onto score a goal that would be immortalised in highlight packages and be viewed over and over again whenever a Manchester Derby is around the corner.
The goal from the Premier League legend was enough to hand United all three points that day. Following that victory, there was no stopping the Red Devils. Consequently, they ended up becoming the champions of England by the end of the respective season.

That acrobatic overhead kick is still counted amongst the best goals scored by a superstar in the Premier League era. Later, he dubbed the goal as the most important one that he scored in his United career.
Around a week ago, Rooney hung up his boots, embarking upon a journey in the managerial circuit. Calling time on his playing career, he became Derby County’s new manager. And despite him leaving Manchester United back in 2017, there will always remain an invisible connection between the highest goalscorer in the club’s history and the Red Devils.
Speaking to the media, Rooney made a bold prediction about Manchester United’s season, who have got success in involving themselves into a fierce title race this term.
Rooney believes this side is filled with the quality it needs to become the Premier League champions.

"“It’s the first time in a few years where you can see Manchester United feel they can win this league and I believe they can.“Six weeks ago I said to the coaches in the office here that I felt United would win the league – I still feel that today. When I watch them they excite me.“Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, with their winning mentalities, have helped massively, and Paul Pogba will have a big part to play.“The players with winning mentalities will relieve a bit of the pressure on Paul so he can show his quality on the pitch.”"
The record goalscorer in Manchester United history, Rooney helped the Red Devils lift the Premier League title five times. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side near the top of the table as well, there is a big possibility that this year could see them return to those glory days. Fingers crossed.
