Manchester United’s transfer chase for Jadon Sancho in the summer was well known. The Red Devils wanted to make the highly-rated English youngster their marquee signing of the summer.

Borussia Dortmund wanted €120 million for Sancho while the United board were prepared to pay a fee in the region of €100 million. The Bundesliga side were adamant on their asking price though and a deal could not be negotiated ultimately.

Since then, it had appeared that the Red Devils had dodged a bullet following Sancho’s subpar start to the season. That looks like a thing of the past now though as the winger is back in form once again and has formed quite a partnership with Erling Haaland in recent weeks.

As a result, he will be a man in demand next summer when it is expected that Borussia Dortmund will be open to offers. And Fabrizio Romano has provided Manchester United some hope while speaking with Caught Offside:

"“For sure Manchester United will be in the race.“We will see whether he will be the priority. If they have to sign a winger they will go with Sancho because he is the main target, and they have an agreement with the player.“Sancho was prepared to join Manchester United (last summer), they had an agreement on a contract, his agents had an agreement with Manchester United. It was close to being completed but then they had problems with Borussia Dortmund as we know.“Next summer the situation will be different because there’ll be a race with other clubs. Last summer it was Manchester United and Sancho and no more. Now we’ll see if other clubs join the race. At the moment I don’t have any names ready to pay this amount – €120m – but we are in January…we’ll see in March when clubs start to move for big targets.“I’m sure Manchester United will be in the race because if they wanted to sign another winger – they had the chance to sign Dembele for €80m – but they prepared to save the money and go next summer for a winger.”"

Could Jadon Sancho join Manchester United?

A player like Jadon Sancho has superstar potential and he could be one of the best players in the world for years to come if he can continue to develop like he has over the past few seasons.

Yes, he had a rough patch at the start of the season but that can be attributed to his disappointment over a failed move to Old Trafford as it was clear that the player wanted the move to go through. There has never been any question over his potential though and very few players of his age have the stats that he does.

If United do not want him in the summer, there won’t be a lack of suitors for his signature either as some of the top clubs in the world are interested in the youngster. In fact, last summer was perhaps their best opportunity to get a deal done as they had a free run at him.
