A large part of Manchester United’s recent transfer policy has involved acquiring some of the most highly-rated youngsters from all over the world and putting them into the club’s academy, in hopes that they become Premier League quality players.
It looks like that is not going to be the case for Amad Diallo. The 18-year-old did have to wait a long time to complete his move to Old Trafford due to work permit issues. But he might make it into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans pretty soon.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, the club’s hierarchy are prepared to axe Jesse Lingard from the 22-man core squad and bring in Diallo instead.
Lingard has not been a part of Solskjaer’s plans for quite some time now. This season he has made just three appearances for the Red Devils and zero in the Premier League. Thus, it is safe to say that his time at Old Trafford is running out quickly.

Diallo in, Lingard out for Manchester United?
There have been widespread rumours recently that Lingard could be looking to leave the club this month in search of first-team football. And if he does, there won’t be a lack of suitors for the 28-year-old, as a number of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring his services on a loan deal.
Recent reports appeared to pour cold water over those rumours though as it is believed that Solskjaer is against letting him leave in the middle of such a vital season. And that is probably a smart move considering United’s congested schedule and the fact that they do not have great depth in their squad.
However, it will be interesting to see whether that changes if Diallo does indeed replace Lingard in the squad. At the end of the day, you cannot expect the Englishman to take such news kindly.
