Manchester United are reportedly favourites to land the €20 million-rated Brazilian wonderkid although Real Madrid and FC Barcelona also seem to be interested in acquiring his signature.

The Red Devils have made it a habit recently to go after some of the most highly-rated teenagers from all over the world. The aim clearly is for them to get accustomed to English football at the club’s academy before making the jump up to the senior level. And while we are yet to see anyone do that, it is expected that that will happen in the near future.

The latest name to be added to that list could be that of Gabriel Veron. The 18-year-old Palmeiras winger has made quite the impression recently and a whole host of European clubs including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester City, Sevilla and Lyon are after his signature.

Manchester United have worked hard behind the scenes though and have been described as favourites if Veron does end up leaving Palmeiras.

Manchester United to land Veron on a bargain?

The Brazilian club were hoping that his departure would see them fetch a transfer fee higher than the club record €33 million that Manchester City paid for Gabriel Jesus. While he has a €60 million release clause in his contract, it is unlikely that anybody will pay anything near that. In fact, SPORT (as cited by TEAMtalk) are reporting that he could be available for a figure around €20 million.

That can be viewed as quite a bargain considering Veron’s potential and the state of the modern day football transfer market. So if a deal is available for €20 million, the Red Devils should not think twice before making a move.

At just the age of 18, Veron has already scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists for Palmeiras. And many consider him to be the next big thing to come out of Brazil. But can he be the next big thing at the Theatre of Dreams?
