Not only was this a wonderful free kick, but this goal was also Rooney’s 250th for United, the goal that allowed him to beat Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record for the Red Devils and become the club’s all time highest goalscorer.

The free kick came from the corner of the 18-yard box, when United were 1-0 down at the Bet365 Stadium. Rooney used his signature stance before taking the kick, everyone standing with bated breath before firing it into the top right corner.

We put this goal at third partly due to the awe-inspiring accuracy the free kick had and partly due to the meaning of the goal for both the club and the player himself. It was an achievement that Rooney unquestionably deserved, following his years of impressive service to the club and one that he desperately wanted, and everyone wanted him to have.
