The journalist has hinted that Paul Pogba’s situation at Manchester United has changed and has offered hope for a contract extension.
For quite some time now, it has felt like Paul Pogba is going to leave Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Frenchman has never made it a secret that he wants an Old Trafford exit. And with his contract running out quickly, that looks set to become a reality soon.
His contract was originally set to expire at the end of this season but the Red Devils had the option to extend it by a year, which they did. That made sure that Pogba would not leave for completely free.
The French World Cup winner has stepped up his game recently though and looks very much a player in form right now. Expectedly, that has coincided with the club’s march towards the top of the Premier League table. And it looks like they are hoping to get Pogba to put pen to paper on a new deal despite Mino Raiola’s comments from a few months back.
At least that is the believe of Ian McGarry. Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (as cited by This is Futbol), the journalist said:
"“A probably unexpected twist in the Paul Pogba relationship with the club, for it is our understanding that United are prepared to offer an olive branch to Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola, who we know has caused all sorts of rancour and problems for the club.“Remember, he has 18 months left on his current deal, however, it appears that in Ed Woodward’s normal modus operandi, where he likes to tie players down to longer contracts, even if they’re not playing regularly in the first team, in order to preserve their value.“They’re willing to just take a little hit on their pride and make an offer to Mino Raiola to come in and discuss an extended deal for Pogba rather than risk losing a lot of the equity that they invested in the player when they bought him for a then-record fee from Juventus three and a half years ago.”"

It is unlikely that the club’s recent form will convince Pogba to extend his deal though. There won’t be any lack of options if or when he does decide to leave, with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus interested in acquiring his services.
With his contract running out, he finally also has leverage over Manchester United, who will be forced to let him go in the summer if they do not want to lose him for free the following summer. And considering the fact that he still has significant value in the transfer market, they surely won’t do that despite his importance in this team.
Thus, while there might be discussions held, it does feel like the relationship between Raiola and the club is beyond repair. While anything is possible in football, do not hold your breath hoping for Pogba to extend his contract.
