Dimitar Berbatov has told the struggling Manchester United player to leave the club, claiming that his time at Old Trafford is up.

While they have managed to put an impressive run in the Premier League till now, it is undeniable that there is a lot of deadwood in this Manchester United squad. There are just way too many highly-paid players with no future at the club, whom the Red Devils will need to find a new home for in the near future.

One of those players is Jesse Lingard. Coming through the academy, he was very highly-rated with some even comparing his abilities to that of Spanish legend Andres Iniesta. It is safe to say that he has not been to match those high expectations.

Right now, he is completely out-of-favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having played just 179 minutes of football in this campaign. As a result, it is clear that he needs a change of scenery and even Dimitar Berbatov has advised him to move away from Old Trafford in order to revive his career.

As reported by the Metro, the former Manchester United striker said:

"“Honestly, his time is up.“He’s not playing. He had his chances to shine, to prove how good he is, how good he can be. It shows that, for the moment, Ole does not trust him enough to play him.“And honestly he doesn’t have anywhere to play in the team right now.“So when you’ve been so long in one team and, coming to 28 [years old], you have to look back and say, “Did I achieve enough? Am I happy with what I’ve done here? Is my time up?”“So I think he need to move, he needs to go somewhere else to play.”"

To be very honest, it is hard to argue with Berbatov. It is very unlikely that Lingard will manage to break into Solskjaer’s team considering the options the Norwegian manager has available at his disposal these days.

Right-wing has been an area of weakness for United this season but even then he has not been trusted enough by the manager. They are expected to sign a player in that position in the not too distant future. Then, his chances will be reduced even further.

Lingard is also capable of playing on the left-wing and in attacking midfield but it is safe to say that both those positions are locked up right now. As a result, a move away from the club looks like the best possible solution for the Englishman. Thankfully, he should not have a lack of suitors if or when he does decide to depart.
