The unfortunate turn of events has compelled the club to recall Manchester United academy graduate from loan six months before the player’s actual return date.

Manchester United were a predominantly active side when it came to improving academy last summer. It was seemingly their last chance to bring in an array of talented prospects from overseas, with the new post-Brexit transfer regulations understood to be put in place this month.

To utilize the opportunity to the greatest extent, United, at first, had to offload those occupying space at Carrington. And it came in the form of loaning out the players, who needed to play regular football.

Several established Manchester United academy graduates were shown the exit door temporarily. And Matej Kovar was one of them.

Over the summer, United truly dominated the youth market by signing the likes of Marc Jurado, Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, Alejandro Garnacho, Isak Hansen-Aaoren, Logan Pye, Joe Hugill, and Radek Vitek.

On the other hand, Kovar joined Swindon Town, having signed a one-year loan deal with the League One club. It was initially anticipated that a loan move to the Wiltshire-based club could help the Manchester United academy graduate attain some regular playing time and eventually develop his game.

But six months on, the loan move seems to have gone in vain. As reported by Manchester Evening News correspondent Richard Fay, the Red Devils have recalled the 20-year-old from Swindon six months before the player’s actual return date.

United have been unhappy about the development Kovar has experienced during his loan spell. Signed from Czech side FC Slovácko in 2018, he has kept only one clean-sheet from 20 appearances in the league.

Currently sitting at 23rd on the league table, Swindon Town find themselves in a difficult situation. Considering all circumstances, Manchester United have decided not to keep the youngster at the relegation-threatened club anymore.

It has also been suggested that the Red Devils are looking forward to sending Kovar on another loan for the rest of the season.
