Jose Mourinho appears to aim dig at Bruno Fernandes
Jose Mourinho appears to have taken a fresh swipe at Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes after they went top of the Premier League.
A couple of months ago, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur destroyed Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford. It was one of the lowest points for the Red Devils in recent memory and it looked like they were going to have a hard time qualifying for the Champions League this season.
How things have changed since then! Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are joint top of the Premier League while Mourinho’s Spurs have struggled to keep up. At this point of time, they find themselves four points behind United.
Mourinho does not seem to be very impressed with the number of penalties that his former side have been given this season. And he appeared to aim a subtle dig at Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, while speaking of Hueng-min Son, he said:
"“To get the Puskas award, to be scoring 100 goals for Tottenham and to be maybe in the top three Premier League scorers without penalties.“Some players score 10 goals a season on penalties and I’m not speaking about Harry Kane, by the way.”"

The thing is, despite all the conspiracy theories, United are not who are controlling the referees or VAR. Yes, there have been a couple of occasions on which they have been given penalties which are questionable. But then, it is important to also remember that there have been other occasions as well when VAR has come to hurt them.
For example when a penalty against them was retaken when it was adjudged that David de Gea had moved from his line before the kick was taken. Or the time when a penalty decision was overturned. We are not saying that these were wrong decisions but that they went against United, which is completely opposite to the perception of certain sections of football fans.
And when it comes to Fernandes, it is clear that he has brought a lot more to this team than just the ability to score from the spot. And when he gets them, he tucks them away more often than not. That is a quality, not something he should be criticised for.
