Manchester United summer signing Amad Diallo has received an ultimate verdict as to where his future lies beyond the January transfer window.

Manchester United fans were left bitterly disappointed when it came to light that the club’s summer transfer plan to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund had fallen apart.

From what was considered a last-ditch attempt to salvage something positive out of the summer transfer window, the Red Devils went on to sign four players on deadline day. One of them was Amad Diallo Traore, an 18-year-old winger nurtured coming out of Atalanta’s youth academy.

The swoop cost United an initial transfer fee of €21 million (£19 million) and another €20 million (£18 million) in future add-ons. Although it was a done deal, some difficulties in securing a work-permit meant the Côte d’Ivoire-born forward would have to wait until January to meet his new teammates.

The January transfer window is now open. And while everyone is expecting the arrival of Amad Diallo, Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, quiet unexpectedly, revealed that the Italian club would like to keep him on loan until June.

In the 2020-21 season, the youngster has been offered only 35 minutes of senior football over two appearances – one in the Champions League and the other in the Serie A.

Mopping all the talks aside though, Fabrizio Romano made it clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Diallo to join the club as soon as possible.

Adding some more substance to that respective claim, a Manchester Evening News correspondent in Rich Fay tweeted out:

"“United currently have no plans to let Amad Diallo move back to Atalanta on loan. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking forward to welcoming him and wants to begin process of integrating winger into first-team squad as soon as possible.”"

Following Manchester United’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Aston Villa last Friday, Solskjaer insisted upon how excited he is to finally welcome the starlet to Old Trafford. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said:

"“We have had all the paperwork, I can’t see any obstacles. He’s coming. Hope very soon he will be with us. Very excited to have him in. He’ll need time to develop.”"

Solskjaer’s words should prove to be enough to brush off Gasperini’s intentions. Now, the onus is on Diallo’s shoulders to repay the faith that Manchester United have shown in him.
