Manchester United could be set to make a move for the Bayern Munich veteran whose contract is set to run out at the end of the season.

Someone’s loss is someone’s gain. We have already seen that this season with Thiago Silva’s move to Chelsea. The Brazilian has been brilliant since arriving at Stamford Bridge and has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water despite being 36 years of age.

Manchester United could be about to do one better though if they manage to pull off the signing of David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free transfer. The Austrian’s contract runs out next summer and till now the Germany giants have failed to get him to put pen on paper on a new deal.

By that point of time, he will just be 29 years old and signing him on a free could be an absolute dream for any club in the world. And Bayern are believed to have withdrawn their latest renewal offer because they believe that his agent is asking for too much money.

AS (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Manchester United have ‘formally’ contacted his camp about the availability of his client, who will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

United are not the only club interested in him though as crosstown rivals Manchester City have also made contact with his agent. Although the Red Devils are expected to be the team who make a stronger push for his signature.

While Real Madrid appear to have made him their top transfer target in case Sergio Ramos, whose contract also ends next summer, decides against renewing.

Alaba started out as a left-back but has converted to a centre-back in recent years and done a brilliant job there. And he will be expected to continue to play in that role even if he decides to leave the serial Bundesliga winners next summer in search of a new challenge.
