The Manchester United star has made an unexpected admission about Bruno Fernandes although it is undeniable at this point of time.

Not too long ago, it looked like Luke Shaw was destined for the Old Trafford exit door. Manchester United had signed him as a teenager for £30 million from Southampton in 2014, a huge sum of money in the transfer market back then. In fact, that was a world record fee for a teenager back then.

He looked completely out of his depth for several seasons though. And Jose Mourinho even publicly criticised him on a number of occasions while he was the manager of the club. Since then, Shaw has improved a lot under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is an important part of the team right now.

On the other hand, Bruno Fernandes had no such problems adjusting to life at Old Trafford, In fact, he has been the main man ever since he walked in through the door. And Shaw has even gone as far as to admitting that the Red Devils need to rely less on their Portuguese superstar.

Talking with Sky Sports and as reported by Metro, he said:

"“I think even in our squad now we have unbelievable players.“But of course Bruno, the fact he came in midway through the season, to adapt that quickly to the Premier League… it doesn’t surprise me because you could tell he was going to be special with his confidence and aura.“He wants to improve himself and improve the team. That’s helped us because we were in a bad state when he came in.“He’s very important to our team now and everything goes through him. We as a team need to take some pressure off him because he’s doing a lot.“Of course he likes doing a lot but us as other players need to step up as well.“Sometimes it looks like if Bruno doesn’t play well we struggle so we need to improve that and have more players stepping up to the plate.”"

Although you would not expect players to come out and make such admissions, in this case, Shaw is just being honest. It is no secret that it is Fernandes who changed the course of the club’s season after arriving in January when they looked destined for a mid-table finish.

Instead, they managed to finish third. And although the elimination from the Champions League group stage is a huge disappointment, the Red Devils do find themselves in a very good position in the league once again.

That is largely thanks to the efforts of Fernandes, who has scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists in just 12 league appearances this season. And while his performances are very encouraging, one has to wonder how the team will play in case he picks up an injury. In that scenario, the other players will need to step up to the plate as United cannot afford to be a one man team.
