The Manchester United star has admitted that he has continued to play with an injury that he picked up earlier in the season.

Manchester United have the chance to break into the top four today if they manage to win against Leeds United at Old Trafford. This is something that would have been unthinkable at the start of the season when they suffered a 6-1 demolition at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.

They will find themselves above the same Spurs side by the end of the day though if results go their way. And their defenders do deserve some credit for their recent upturn in form.

Defence has been viewed as United’s weakness but they’ve conceded the same number of goals as Liverpool and Everton, the top two in the league at this point of time. And while there are still a lot of areas that they can improve in at the back, they’re getting the job done right now.

Victor Lindelof is someone who has been a regular this season. And he recently revealed that he has been playing through a back injury while speaking with the club’s official website:

"“I want to help this team win trophies — that’s why I play football. If the team needs me, I’m going to do my best to be there and try to perform at the highest level.“Even if I have some pain, I still want to go out there and do my best.“I’ve been having a lot of pain and I still have problems with it. I’m in every day trying to sort it out but the schedule is very, very tight so I’m just trying to keep it under control.“It’s been difficult, particularly after games, but I’m trying to be as smart as possible with it when I’m playing, when I’m doing my recovery and having treatment.”"

The Swede has been started in every league game this season except for the demolition suffered at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. And he deserves a lot of praise for playing through an injury for the club.

This cannot continue though and at some point of time, Solskjaer will have to give Lindelof some rest. Otherwise, there is the risk of aggravating the injury, which could see him out of action for a long time. And that is not something that United can afford right now, considering how thin their options are at the back already.

Tonight, Solskjaer’s side will look to continue their good run of form. While they are out of the Champions League, the Red Devils find themselves in a very good position in the Premier League. Do not say it out loud but they might even be in the title race.
