Reports claim that certain Manchester United stars are blaming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for their elimination from the Champions League.

After winning their first two Group Stage games against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, Manchester United would have fancied their chances of making it into the Knockout Stage of the competition. Obviously, at that stage they would not have seen the collapse coming.

The shock defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir turned out to be vital in hindsight. Solskjaer’s side managed only three points from their last four games, resulting in them dropping down into the Europa League.

And according to Manchester Evening News, a number of the players blame Solskjaer for the club’s inconsistent form this season as well as their elimination from the Champions League:

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retains a sizeable section of support from the Manchester United dressing room but some players believe he is the source of the team’s problems. The MEN understands a number of United players feel Solskjaer is to blame for their variable form this season and it has become an ‘easy ride’ playing for the club."

The report does go on to state though that most of the United players like Solskjaer and are backing him to lead the club.

To be very honest, there have always been questions regarding Solskjaer’s ability to manage a club the size of Manchester United. His record in the Champions League is terrible, having lost six of his first ten games in the competition.

He has managed to steady the ship in the Premier League though. After a terrible start to the campaign, they are back in the top four race. They currently sit at sixth in the league table despite having played one game less than those ahead of him.

As a result, it is unlikely that the club will show Solskjaer the exit door due to their elimination from the Champions League Group Stage. But with the Mauricio Pochettino rumours continuing to do the rounds, it would not be surprising if things change for the Norwegian if United go on a bad run of form.
