Current West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has urged the out-of-favour Manchester United star to leave.

After spending two outstanding seasons on loan at Sheffield United, Dean Henderson managed to bag a call-up from the England national team and was being considered as a long-term replacement for David De Gea at Manchester United.

With the Spaniard looking out of form since quite some time and then conceding 6 goals at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, it seemed like Henderson was very close to becoming a regular in Solskjaer’s side.

But De Gea managed to turn his form around and as a result, Solskjaer was reluctant in dropping him in favour of Henderson. Ultimately, he decided to stick with the veteran instead of giving the youngster a taste of first-team action for the Red Devils.

As a result, Henderson has managed to make only 5 appearances this season till now. This has raised a few concerns in the mind of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who left United back in 2018 after finding himself in a similar situation.

He has urged Henderson to consider a potential move away from Old Trafford, as he believes the youngster has a lot of potential which is being wasted, as the Englishman has been warming the benches at the moment.

Speaking with the Goalkeepers’ Union Podcast and as cited by Daily Mail, Johnstone said:

"“I couldn’t think of anything worse than being there and not playing. You want to be playing as a ‘keeper.“I was asked last week whether I missed United. I said “no”. I’m playing in the Premier League with West Brom.“Deano had a great loan spell at Sheffield United, I can’t see him happy sitting down; all Dean wants to do is keep playing. It’s stalled.“Dean’s very young, he probably has to be patient, but how long is your career? It flies by.“I was probably too patient leaving at 25 – it’s a tough situation.“It will be difficult for him to be number one.”"

Earlier reports suggested that Solskjaer had promised Henderson decent playing time at the start of the season but the Englishman has been on the bench most of the time. And with the form that De Gea has showcased in recent months, it is unlikely that he’ll be in the first-team picture anytime soon baring an injury to the Spaniard.
