Manchester United legend reveals Bruno Fernandes’ weakness
By Akash Dutta
Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has pointed out the main weakness in Bruno Fernandes’ game and how Solskjaer must combat it.
Lately Manchester United’s performances have shown signs of improvement and most of the credit for that goes to their midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes. Since his arrival at Old Trafford in January, the club have been producing impressive results and even secured a third spot in the Premier League last season.
This season, although United had endured a pretty rough start, the Portuguese international handled the situation quite well in the end and now it looks like the Red Devils are back on their feet.
Fernandes has already scored 21 goals in just 35 appearances for the club. This is a feat that no other United midfielder has managed to achieve before him. His performance against Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday night was very impressive as well, when he scored 2 goals and his stunning volley was awarded the Best Goal of the Week.
His performance appears to have caught the eye of former striker Dimitar Berbatov but he believes that Fernandes also has a major flaw in his game. The Manchester United legend criticised his defensive abilities although he was not short of praise for the Portuguese’s abilities on the other end of the pitch either.

According to Berbatov, Fernandes is brilliant in attack but does not bring as much to the defensive side of things. So United need a player to cover for him. As reported by the Metro, the Bulgarian said:
"“Fernandes has impressed me so much and the only weakness I see in him is his defensive side. He can improve a bit there.“He’s an attacking midfielder, though, who creates chances, scores goals and up the pitch is where he has his power. That’s why I think it’s good to have someone in the team to cover for him.”"
Bruno’s weakness must have already been spotted by Solskjaer and that is perhaps the reason why he has continued to use the duo of Fred and McTominay behind him. That will not be the case against Southampton tomorrow though as the Scottish midfielder looks set to miss the game. Thus, it will be interesting how the manager decides to combat that issue.
