Recent reports from various sources have claimed that Manchester United are lining up a move for their first ever director of football.

The retirement of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 also saw the exit of director David Gill, after whom Ed Woodward was appointed as the new Chief Executive Director. But this new management has faced a lot of criticism in terms of transfer business and claims were made that Woodward was the main reason for the club’s failures over the last several years.

This season the Red Devils were supposed to bring in Jadon Sancho but the board decided not to match Borussia Dortmund’s massive €120 million asking price. Understandably, fans around the world were furious with the decision made by the director.

Since then there has been speculation about the current position of Woodward at the club and the appointment of a director of football is likely to be next on the club’s agenda. And Manchester Evening News are reporting that Manchester United have been keen on hiring Marcel Brands.

More from Manchester United News

Brands is currently the Director of Football at Everton and has been very influential in bringing in high-profile summer transfers at Goodison Park, a huge reason for their form this season although that has gone a bit sore recently. It was with him at the helm that the Merseyside club were able to land James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan.

Brands was successful in creating a name for himself well before Everton though as he was prevviously associated with clubs like RKC Waalwijk, AZ Alkmaar and PSV.

As far as the concerns of Solskjaer are considered, he would be delighted to have a new director on board as the Norwegian has been held back quite a few times in case of signing new players and this could be an opportunity for him to build the squad that he wants at Old Trafford.
