Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the Manchester United star has been placed in isolation after coming in contact with a COVID positive person.

Manchester United have made a stumbling start to the season. While the results have not been catastrophic except for the 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, the performances have left a lot to be desired.

It is tricky to play football in the middle of a global pandemic. With games being played more frequently than ever before due to the reduced time period for the season, it has resulted in an increase in the number of injuries being faced by players.

There is also the problem of them either testing positive for the virus or coming in contact with people who have. That appears to have been the case with Jesse Lingard.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told ManUtd.com, that he has been placed in isolation:

"Jesse [Lingard] is still self-isolating because he’s been in contact with a COVID positive [person]. He’ll be back soon.”"

This is not expected to play a huge part in United’s preparation to take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League. Lingard has not been a part of Solskjaer’s first-team plans for quite some time now.

He was once an important member of the Red Devils squad under Jose Mourinho and also the England national team setup but has just played 99 minutes of football this season. There have also been rumours about him potentially leaving the club in the near future as he continues to fall down the pecking order.

Let’s see what happens on that front. While he might not be a starter for Manchester United anymore, that does not mean that he cannot bring a lot of value to a mid-table club. Thus, he should not have a lack of suitors if or when he does decide to depart Old Trafford in search of regular playing time.
