After failing to get the Jadon Sancho deal over the line, Manchester United are ready to make a move for another winger with a €80 million release clause.

It is no secret that Manchester United tried and failed to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils were unwilling to meet Borussia Dortmund’s €120 million asking price and spent months trying to get them to lower it. The German side did not budge though and as a result, Sancho remained at Signal Iduna Park.

While it does not mean that there is no chance of a deal happening in the future, the Red Devils will do well to keep their options open. And one person in their sight appears to be Villarreal’s 21-year-old winger, Samuel Chukwueze.

Chukwueze is considered as one of the brightest young prospects in La Liga. In 11 appearances this season, he has scored once and assisted three goals for the Yellow Submarine.

While his stats might not be as impressive as that of Sancho, he has a €80 million release clause in his Villarreal contract. And the club are expected to demand that if he is to be let go.

According to La Razon, Manchester United are preparing to make a bid and are ready to take on the competition for Chukwueze’s signature. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Wolves and Leicester City are other clubs who are also also keeping a tab on the 21-year-old according to reports.

Now, while Chukwueze would be no doubt be a good signing, one has to question whether he is worth the €80 million price tag that is being quoted in the media. He scored 4 goals and 6 assists in 41 appearances last season. Those are good numbers for a 21-year-old but not good enough to warrant such a massive transfer fee.

The best case scenario for United would be to get a deal done for Sancho. But only time will tell what happens.
