Reports have revealed that Southampton are keeping tabs on the Manchester United star and are keen to make an offer in the January transfer window.

It has been long since a youth prodigy from the St. Mary’s moved to Manchester United. Many of you might have already realised who we are talking about. When fit, he plays a pivotal part under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He is none other than Luke Shaw.

Thanks to the Red Devils’ canny recruitment and Southampton’s willingness to let the young starlet leave at just the age of 18, Shaw has already represented the Premier League giants 149 times.

Southampton might be looking to conduct a Shaw-esque deal again, but, as far as the reports are concerned, The Saints will be looking to get the player this time around. According to a report from The Athletic, Southampton are interested in securing a loan deal for Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams.

The story suggests that the Hampshire-based side are looking to strengthen their full-back department with one more signing, and they are more interested in getting a loan deal done instead of signing a player on a permanent basis.

The belief inside Southampton’s camp is that it would be easier to snap up the signature of the 20-year-old full-back on a six-month loan from Old Trafford next January.

More from Manchester United Transfer Rumours

Manchester United signed Alex Telles from Porto last summer. The Brazilian’s arrival not only provided competition for the left-back spot but also pushed Williams further down Solskjaer’s pecking order.

In the 2020-21 season, the Englishman has managed to make only two appearances for the Red Devils’ senior side, both coming in Carabao Cup ties. But with Southampton currently sitting at 5th on the table, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team could prove to be a direct rival for Champions League places going forward.

Solskjaer reportedly blocked a move for Williams in the summer transfer window, assuring him that he would get playing time. Unfortunately, that has not been the case and he could be looking to leave in the near future.

On the other hand, Luke Shaw is currently recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up against Everton a fortnight back. He is expected to be back in action in December. So if Williams can’t get into the team now, there is very little hope for him when the English international returns.
