Italian reports suggest that Inter Milan are likely to pursue a swap deal for the Manchester United star who has been in brilliant form this season.

Fred and Scott McTominay have been two of the best performers that Manchester United have had this season. The double-pivot has become an integral part of Solskjaer’s game plan whenever Solskjaer’s side are in need of a win.

And on the back of their 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, duties came calling for the duo. Their inclusion in the starting line-up restored the balance within the team and resulted in a 4-1 away victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

That triumph might have become a distant memory to some, but the partnership between McTominay and Fred has remained since then, having got featured in the team more regularly. But according to the fresh reports coming out of Italy, one of them might end up leaving the Theatre of Dreams in the upcoming January transfer window.

A report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Mole) reveals that Inter Milan are considering offering a swap deal involving Christian Eriksen and Fred in the upcoming January transfer window. Antonio Conte has grown desperate to offload the Danish playmaker as he has failed to adjust to the Seria A since moving there. Hence, he would offer the former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker to Manchester United in return for Fred.

Since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for a transfer fee of £47m, Fred has always had been dubbed as an ‘underrated asset’. But Solskjaer finally seems to have found his footing in English football. Eriksen, on the other hand, has played 33 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists across all competitions.

Other than Fred, Inter have reportedly kept an eye on the likes of PSG’s Leandro Paredes and Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka with the same intention to get a swap deal done.

Thanks to the acquisitions made over the last two transfer windows, United’s creative department is now seen as the team’s strongest part. The competition for places within the squad is so severe that even a player like Donny van de Beek finds himself spending most of his time warming the bench. Thus, it will be a surprise if the Red Devils actually go for the deal but only time will tell.
