Manchester United’s new signing has been hailed as the ‘Next Arjen Robben’ after his highly impressive training footage emerged.

It is important to give young players time to grow and not to burden them with extreme pressure. But very often those who show promise early in their careers are given tags that they are expected to live up to. When it comes to Manchester United’s new signing Amad Diallo, it looks like that is going to be the case.

The winger was signed on deadline day of the previous transfer window from Atalanta despite making just 3 senior appearances for them. The Red Devils paid an initial £19 million, which can rise up to £36 million with add-ons.

And it looks like the fans can see why the club paid so much for a player with very little top level experience. A video emerged recently of him twisting past a couple of Atalanta defenders before scoring and that evidence appears to be enough for some to suggest that he is the ‘Next Arjen Robben’.

@RodGyUtd wrote on Twitter:

"“Can’t believe we have this wonderkid from Jan, the next Arjen Ruben”"

Apparently, he was too excited to realize that he had misspelled the name of one of the greatest players of this century. On the other hand, @alexusUTD tweeted out:

"“Sancho who”"

Let’s just say that it is too early to bring out those comparisons simply by seeing a clip for training. It is important to give Diallo the chance and space to grow into the best player that he can be Old Trafford and not burden him with the pressure of being the ‘Next Arjen Robben’ or Manchester United’s answer to Jadon Sancho.

There is clearly some talent in the 18-year-old. The club did not just go out there and spend such significant money on him blindly.

Diallo might have just made 3 appearances for Atalanta but he already has a senior goal to his name. And in 6 UEFA Youth League appearances last season, he scored once and assisted thrice.

He is expected to arrive at Old Trafford in January if his work permit issues are sorted out. But do not expect him to be an immediate starter at the club. Instead, a fight with Daniel James for minutes seems to be the role that he will play in his early days at Manchester United.
