According to reports from Italian media, failure to extend the contract could stir up Manchester United’s interest in Juventus’ Argentine superstar.

The rumours embarked upon many years ago, and yet it still hovers in the air. Manchester United have had kept their eyes on the signature of Paulo Dybala for some time now, and yet they have not managed to bring him to Old Trafford.

In the summer of 2019, the Red Devils came close but ultimately failed to get a deal over the line for the Argentine. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were the only interested parties in queue for his services.

However, an abundance of unprecedented situations saw Pablo Dybala staying put at the city of Turin. Some reports in The Sun suggested that United had denied paying the Argentine his massive wage demands. And hence, the move fell apart.

Nevertheless, as the recent stories coming out of the Italian outlets suggest, that might have been a short-lived break for those gossips rather than an end to them.

According to La Gazetta dello Sport, Juventus have failed to agree to a contract renewal with Dybala. The story claims that his agent, Jorge Antun, has returned to his homeland Argentina without closing the talks with the reigning Serie A champions.

With the superstar’s contract set to run out in June 2022, there is a growing understanding that fresh talks over the renewal won’t resume before 2021.

The report also claims that several big clubs have their eyes on the situation regarding Dybala’s uncertain future, and United are believed to be one of them.

Last summer, the Red Devils were in the hunt for a player, who could occupy the right-wing — a berth currently absent of a worthy recipient. Despite chasing the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund all summer, they failed to attain his services for various speculative reasons.

Dybala, who has scored 96 goals and provided 38 assists from 234 appearances since joining Juventus from Palermo, could be a very able alternative to Sancho for Manchester United. While he mainly plays as a second striker, he is capable of playing on the right wing.

The 27-year-old holds one of the most important positions behind Cristiano Ronaldo within the current Juventus squad.

Should the agreement not be reached over the contract renewal between the entourage of the player and the club soon, United could proceed with a concrete interest next summer.
