Gareth Southgate’s demand could lead to the Manchester United star leaving in order to establish himself in the England national team.

Gareth Southgate has done a great job since taking over as the England national team manager and it is likely that he will remain in the job for the foreseeable future unless something significant happens. Thus, his demand could lead to the departure of Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

The goalkeeper had spent two very successful loan seasons at Sheffield United. Combined with the terrible form of David de Gea recently and it was expected that he would take over the gloves from the Spaniard when he returned to Old Trafford this season.

That has not happened though. De Gea has managed to rediscover his form after coming under pressure. As a result, Henderson has been left warming the bench, playing in the odd game here and there.

This will not be enough to get him into the England team though. As reported by 90 Min, Gareth Southgate has demanded that he has to play more regularly at club level if he is to have any hope of becoming the national team’s number one.

As a result, Henderson could be set to leave Old Trafford once again soon. And a loan move seems like the most likely path forward as United are not expected to let him go on a permanent basis just yet.

The same report has stated that a deal with Aston Villa had also been close in the summer but the keeper ended up staying. The deal is expected to be off the table now though as the Premier League side already have Emi Martinez in their ranks now. Scottish champions Celtic are also rumoured to be a viable option in January, as they have had their own struggles at the position.

Let’s just hope that whatever ends up happening, Henderson does not leave on a permanent basis. Cause in him, United might have their keeper for the next decade or so.
