Michael Owen has made a worrying claim about Edinson Cavani’s future at Manchester United although he believes he is a great striker.

As one of the most accomplished strikers of his generation, Michael Owen surely knows his way to the back of the net. And having been one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League during his prime, he also knows what it takes to cut it in the Premier League. As a result, his take on Edinson Cavani’s future at Manchester United holds some weight to it.

Cavani has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in all of Europe for over a decade now. But the fact of the matter is that he is set to turn 34 in a few months time. He is not a long-term fix for the Red Devils by any stretch of the imagination. And it will be interesting to see if he can even establish himself as a starter under Solskjaer or remains an impact substitute.

Michael Owen appears to have no doubt about the quality of the Uruguayan but is worried whether he will get the required service to score goals. As reported by Metro, he said:

"“Manchester United of old, he would have scored hundreds of goals in those teams.“Now, are they going to get lots of crosses into the box and cut-backs that he preys on?“It’s a very good signing, I just hope he gets the ammunition to fire the bullets.”"

Owen is someone who did get to play in a Manchester United team managed by Sir Alex Ferguson although very briefly. And his worries about the club’s quality right now are justified.

Although they managed to beat Everton 3-1 in their own backyard – where Cavani got his first goal for the Red Devils – they still remain at a measly 13th position in the Premier League table. And although there have been sparks of brilliance from this team, namely those wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, they have been equally frustrating at other times.

Only one thing can tell how Cavani’s career will turn out at Old Trafford and that is time. So let’s just wait and see whether Owen’s fears are justified or if the quality of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba is enough for the Uruguayan goal-machine to take the Premier League by storm.
