According to a recently-emerged report from an Italian outlet, Manchester United are pondering on making a swoop for the Seria A star.
Manchester United were keen on bringing in a centre-back last summer. The chatters of an apparent move for a defensive option never ceased down until the deadline day of the summer transfer window arrived.
Before that, numerous center-backs were linked with a summer move to Old Trafford. Those touted names remained in those thoughtful back pages of the media outlets, while United ended up their summer business without signing a defender.
The reality check came too fast for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men as they suffered a 6-1 home defeat to their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho.
In the Premier League 2020-21, the Red Devils have managed just seven points from six games, having lost three and drawn one. The Norwegian gaffer will be looking to bolster their defensive department going into the next transfer window. And yes, it would indeed be a need instead of a want for the club to attain a defensive individual by then.
As per the report from Italian outlet La Nazione (via Sportwitness), both Manchester United and their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to snap up Nikola Milenković from Fiorentina.

Just like the Red Devils, the Serie A side has had made a dreadful start to their new season, winning just two of their six league games. With seven points, they currently sit at 11th on the Serie A points table.
Should this initial run of results be the illustration of Fiorentina’s remaining season, a star man in Nikola Milenković might prefer moving onto a bigger club to ensure a new challenge.
By the way, with Milenković’s contract at the Italian side set to end in June 2022, Fiorentina might not have any option left under their sleeves but to offload the Serbian defender from their ranks soon if they want a considerable amount of transfer fee. Whether that time comes in the upcoming January or next summer remains to be seen.
The report further states that Fiorentina is holding out a transfer fee of €25m for the 23-year-old centre-half.
Manchester United would undoubtedly face some competition from Tottenham Hotspur for his signature. Nevertheless, often dubbed as Serbia’s ‘new Nemanja Vidic‘, Milenković could be the key to United’s current defensive frailties.
Do you think Milenković could transform United’s defensive fragilities into their prowess?
