Player’s father reveals why he left Manchester United
The player’s father has revealed why he decided to leave Manchester United after spending years at the club.
Brighton and Hove Albion hosted Manchester United in a regular Premier League fixture after the governing bodies had agreed to bring the English football back behind the closed doors during the latter half of the last season.
Mason Greenwood’s name on the team-list always drive United fans’ desire to turning on the screens, and so was the case this time.
As expected by many, Greenwood broke the deadlock at the 16th minute mark of the game and straightaway ran towards one of the pitch side cameras, making an ‘A’-shaped gesture with his fingers to show gratitude towards one of his best mates Angel Gomes, who was about to leave Manchester United after years of progressing through the ranks.
Angel Gomes joined the Manchester United academy at the age of five and had been at the club until last summer. He made ten senior team appearances for the Mancunian side over the years and played a big role in winning the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup for England national team.
However, following the disagreement between the Premier League giants and the creative playmaker over a contract renewal, the latter chose to leave having rejected a lower-than-anticipated offer from the club.
He signed for French side Lille OSC and directly got sent to the Portuguese side Boavista for a season-long loan deal. And it has been a bright start to his life in Liga NOS. Having scored two goals and provided four assists from four appearances for Boavista, Angel Gomes has already started to prove his doubters wrong.

Now speaking to TSF, Gomes’ father, namely Gil Gomes, revealed:
"“He accepted the challenge of Luís Campos to sign with Lille and relaunch his career at Boavista on loan from the French club, and now he is on the right track, he still has a lot to show.“Angel managed to show a path to the future by being one of the youngest to make his debut for Manchester United when the coach was José Mourinho, and that also helped him a lot.”"
United reluctance to pay a higher fee for Gomes could prove to be a controversial decision should the 20-year-old attacking-midfielder keep producing such numbers week in, week out.
Do you think United did a mistake by letting Gomes leave so early in his career?
