Mauricio Pochettino has finally confirmed the news that will excite Manchester United fans as the two continue to be linked with each other.
Despite their 1-0 defeat at home at the hands of Arsenal, it cannot be denied that Manchester United have managed to steady the ship after a terrible start to their season. But a few more bad results and they could find themselves back in the same situation.
In many ways, that describes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as manager. It has been a stop and start reign. One second they look like world beaters and the very next they look like a team completely incapable of keeping up with any good Premier League side.
And while Solskjaer’s side has always performed best when he looks on the verge of getting the sack, there has never been the feeling that he is a long-term solution to the club’s managerial problems since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Someone like Mauricio Pochettino could be that guy.
The Argentine has been linked with the Red Devils for a long time now and while speaking on Sky Sports, he admitted that he is ready to return to management now after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur almost a year ago:
"“I was always ready to be involved in the game again. I love football. It’s my passion, not my job.“It’s not a stress when you are working. It’s not a stress to go to the training ground. It’s not a stress to prepare for a game. It’s not a stress to compete… look, my hair is still getting longer and longer!“I am looking forward to being involved in the game again, I love the game. It’s difficult; we are inside, we are working, we are doing things but it is not the same thing to be involved every day, to share it with your players, your staff and the club. You miss that.“Football without fans, you realise that you lose the passion… it means a lot to have the fans in the stadium but we need to protect the industry, that is why we need to keep going and playing.”"

Pochettino did some great work during his time at Tottenham. He took a side that was happy enough finishing in the top 6 and transformed them into title contenders. He also somehow managed to take them into the Champions League final against all odds and it was harsh on the part of their board to show him the exit door in the middle of the very next season.
Someone’s loss is someone’s gain though and in this case, it could very well be Manchester United’s gain. Pochettino could be the man that the club have been looking since Sir Alex Ferguson hung up his boots. Despite never winning a trophy at Tottenham, he has shown enough flashes of brilliance for any top level club to take a punt on him.
For the time being though, Solskjaer is the man at the managerial helm. And let’s hope that he can bring the club enough success this season that the club do not even have to look for a new manager.
