Here’s how we rated the players as Manchester United suffered their third Premier League defeat at Old Trafford this season against Arsenal.

Manchester United must have gone into this game riding high. After all, they were undefeated since the international break and held wins over the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig over the past couple of weeks.

Arsenal on the other hand were coming off back-to-back defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Leicester City. Thus, there was a clear favourite in this game. But as it often happens, football had a surprise or two to spring.

A 69th minute from Aubameyang was enough to hand Arsenal a 1-0 victory and all three points and leave United languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Here’s how we rated the Manchester United  players vs Arsenal:

David de Gea – 5

Not a great day at the office for the Spaniard. But at the end of the day was beaten by a penalty, so we cannot be too harsh on him.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Another man who had an off day after a series of brilliant performances over the past couple of weeks.

Victor Lindelof – 5.5

Did very well to prevent a couple of Arsenal chances from going in. But was then guilty of giving the ball away in a  dangerous position as well. Ultimately though, not the worst defender on the day.

Harry Maguire – 5

Was not at fault for the goal that United conceded, which has not been the case often this season. Did waste a chance to put them ahead though.

Luke Shaw – 6

Did not get the freedom to get forward which he would have liked. Did put in a great delivery from a set-piece which was wasted. At the end of the day, might have been United’s pick of the bunch. That’s not saying much though.

Scott McTominay – 4

Failed at his job of connecting defence with attack as the Red Devils lost out the midfield battle.

Fred – 3

His worst performance in a long, long time. Has been brilliant recently but it just was not his day and he was brought off.

Paul Pogba – 2

Nothing just came off for Pogba on the day. His passing was off while he also ended up giving away the penalty.

Bruno Fernandes – 3

Wasteful is the only word that can describe his performance on the day. Was subbed off and not too many fans would have complained.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Another player who has been brilliant lately but failed to match his standards on the day. Did set up Greenwood in the first half though although the chance went begging.

Mason Greenwood – 4.5

Had one good attempt but other than that was not very effective.

Substitutes

Nemanja Matic – 4

His introduction might have raised a few eyebrows. But he was far from the worst player on the pitch.

Edinson Cavani – 3

Could not make a difference after coming off the bench.

Donny van de Beek – 5

His deflected cross hit the post after coming on.

Must Read. In-form defender avoids question about Manchester United future. light
