Manchester United have finally extended the contract of one of their most promising academy prospects who is one to watch out for in the future.

It seemed to be another dry day at the office for the boys in red. The Manchester United U23s side were drawing 1-1 against Everton. It certainly felt as if the points would be shared between the engaged parties at the final blow on the referee’s whistle.

But, who knew Brandon Williams’ dashing run towards the 18-yard box would earn Manchester United juniors a penalty and the chance for a late winner. Sebastian Quirk was found guilty of a tackle he made on Williams and got booked immediately as a result of it.

There were various options available on the list for the Red Devils when it came to taking the spot-kick, from lethal marksmen to people who just wanted to score a goal. But, United chose to go with a kid possessing nerves of steel.

Ethan Galbraith stepped up to have a go at the goal, put the ball on the penalty spot, took a deep breath, glanced at his target and smashed the ball past the goalkeeper. United eventually managed a 2-1 victory on the night.

There were rumours that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would consider bringing Galbraith up to United’s senior squad at some point this season. It now seems like a matter of time before the Northern Irish international gets a call-up to the senior team.

The 19-year-old has ultimately renewed his contract at Old Trafford, as announced by the club. The new deal will see Galbraith staying put at the club until June 2023, at least.

Galbraith’s last and only senior appearance for the club came in the UEFA Europa League last season. Although his performance on that night was more than overwhelming for the Premier League giants, the club suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Astana.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently has an abundance of options in midfield, so much so that the likes of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek have found themselves on the bench in recent weeks. However, the hectic schedule, alongside the possible injuries and loss of form, means Galbraith could see himself donning the midfield, but for Manchester United senior side this term.
