Manchester United will reportedly make a move for the world-class defender, who will be available for a bargain next summer.

There is no denying that Manchester United have managed to steady the ship after was truly a terrible start to the season. A 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur must have left Solskjaer just a few bad results away from getting the sack but he has managed to avoid that and in great style.

A win against Newcastle United managed to settle the nerves. That was followed by a huge upset in the Champions League away against Paris Saint-Germain. And now a 0-0 draw against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea means that while Solskjaer’s side are looking like a good team once again.

One of the biggest areas of concerns though has been the defence. Harry Maguire has not managed to impress since his £80 million move to Old Trafford and is more of a worry right now than an asset.

Axel Tuanzebe put in a brilliant performance against PSG but the Red Devils will be looking for someone with a bit more pedigree to build there defence around. And RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano might just be that man. According to The Times, the Premier League giants will make a move for the French international next summer.

Despite being just 22 years of age, Upamecano has already made 120 appearances for RB Leipzig and is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe. In fact, he might already be one of the best in the position right now in world football.

What’s more is the fact that he will be available for an absolute bargain. A release clause that has been reported to be around £38 million will be activated in his contract next summer.

As a result, some of the biggest clubs in Europe are expected to be after his signature. And it will be the job of the United board to convince him that Old Trafford is the place for him to move to. If they manage to do that, they might have their hands on their main defender for the next decade.
