Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come out and rubbished the rumours that have been doing the rounds about the Manchester United star this week.

Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United was a much needed boost for the Red Devils who had suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur a couple of weeks. Goals from Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford were enough to secure all three points. Paul Pogba also had a brilliant cameo after coming off the bench.

Naturally, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted that his big guns are firing going into a glamour tie against Paris Saint-Germain. One man missing from the mix though was Mason Greenwood.

The teenager was a revelation last season, scoring 17 goals and providing 5 assists. And by the end of the season it looked like he had managed to establish himself as a starter in the Manchester United team.

He was completely left out of the squad though against Newcastle United. And rumours started to float around that it was because of disciplinary issues. Solskjaer has quickly come out to rubbish those rumours.

As reported by ESPN, the Manchester United boss said:

"“Where are your sources, that’s what I’m saying.“I can’t declare medical stuff can I? We hope it’s just a niggle and we don’t want to take any chances with him and hopefully at the weekend it’ll be fine again.”"

Greenwood has not found things as easy last season as he did last time around. In 3 Premier League appearances, he is yet to contribute a goal or an assist. That is understandable though since he is still only 19 years of age and cannot be expected to produce as consistently as more senior players.

The arrival of Edinson Cavani though could greatly reduce the time he will get on the pitch this season. The Uruguayan has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in all of Europe for a decade and the Red Devils have not brought him to sit on the bench.

Thus, it will be interesting to see how Solskjaer manages Greenwood this season. The manager will be keen not to halt his progress but then there is also no doubt that he is under immense pressure to produce results. Thus, it might be hard for him times to pick the teenager over more proven stars.
