Manchester United are reportedly demanding a massive transfer fee for the out-of-favour star, who has very little chance of making it back into the fist-team.

The Manchester United devotees all around the world were hoping for a mass exodus over the last summer transfer window. And they even felt an instant glimpse of hope when Alexis Sanchez was shown the exit door after what had been a horrid and futile spell for the former Arsenal man at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Inter Milan, having seen enough of the Chilean, decided to tie him up to a long-term contract last summer.

Although Sanchez’s departure – which meant United wouldn’t have to pay his humongous salary anymore – left a stream of positivity behind it, one departure was never enough to justify the phrase ‘mass exodus’.

The Red Devils offloaded a few more in the form of Diogo Dalot and Andreas Pereira. Though, both of them left the club on loan spells rather than on permanent basis. While the former joined AC Milan, the latter will don the SS Lazio jersey this season.

United had to wait until the deadline day to see a definite deal for Chris Smalling getting over the line. And many believe the departures were imminent but not enough.

The Red Devils still have the likes of Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones under their ranks. None of these three names possess that aura anymore to play for the club week in, week out – at least in the eyes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And hence, they did not make the 25-men squad enrolled for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League campaign. Yet, the reports coming out of the English media are relatively shocking.

As per the claims made by The Sun, Manchester United are looking to bag an amount of £20 million from the sale of Phil Jones.

Jones, who signed a contract renewal at Ole Trafford last summer, apparently earns around £100,000-per-week without any bonuses. And that massive wage was probably the cause interested parties were forced to put off their interest in the Englishman. As thing stands now, his contract at Manchester United won’t run out until June 2023.

Having played his last match against Tranmere Rovers, Jones has been out since then due to an injury. And his return date is still unknown. Nevertheless, as the sources claim, he might fancy a January move as he still holds the desire to play at the highest level.
