Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed why he had to drop the Manchester United star out of the team in their 4-1 win over Newcastle United.
After a stumbling start to the season that saw them lose two of their first three Premier League games, and one in embarrassing fashion against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur side, it was clear that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was already under pressure to produce results. Fortunately, the game against Newcastle United was one that did.
It was starting to look like another one of those frustrating evenings where the Red Devils were bound to drop points. With 85 minutes gone, the scores were still tied at 1-1 and they had to thank David de Gea for it, who pulled out a spectacular save to keep things level.
Ultimately Bruno Fernandes put them ahead after missing a penalty earlier and then goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford were enough to secure all three points. Paul Pogba put in a sparkling performance as well after coming on in the 69th minute. And Solskjaer will be happy to see his big guns firing again.
One notable name missing from the matchday squad was that of Mason Greenwood though. And the Manchester United boss has revealed that it was because he was not fit enough to feature on the day.
As reported by Goal, Solskjaer said:
"“Mason wasn’t fit to play so we had to leave him out. We hope he will recover quickly.”"

Greenwood emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League last season and looked like a player who had already established himself in the Manchester United starting XI by the end of the season.
He has not enjoyed the brightest starts to this season though. He is yet to score or assist in the Premier League and with the arrival of Edinson Cavani, there are genuine concerns that his game time might be much more limited now.
Having just turned 19, he has years ahead of him though. The arrival of Cavani can only be a positive for him. While he has featured mostly as a winger in this team, he is an instinctive striker. As a result, he could learn a lot from the Uruguayan, who has been one of the most leathal goal scorers in all of Europe for a decade.
