Manchester United make breakthrough in race for ‘Next Luis Figo’
Manchester United appear to have made a breakthrough in their race to sign the player who has been dubbed as the ‘Next Luis Figo’.
Manchester United’s recent transfer business might have been disappointing to say the least but they appear to be well prepared for the future. Just weeks ago, they managed to complete the signings of promising youngsters Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo.
And while we are yet to see how those two will end up, the Red Devils have made a breakthrough in the transfer race for another wonderkid.
This time it is Portuguese teenager Luis Gomes. The 16-year-old is currently at Sporting CP and just signed his first professional contract with the club. According to The Mirror, Manchester United have already swooped in and agreed a £14 million first refusal deal with them, which means that if they decide to sell in the future, the Premier League giants have the first shot at him.

Coming out of the famed Sporting CP youth system, which has produced the likes of Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent times, Gomes is very highly-rated. So much so that he has already been likened to Figo.
It is great that the Red Devils have managed to agree this deal and it is encouraging to see that they are preparing for the future. The truth of the matter is though that Gomes is just 16 years of age right now and like so many before him, he might just never stand up to the expectations.
It is a win-win situation for Manchester United though. They have no obligation to buy and if Gomes does indeed turn out to be nearly as good as he is expected to be, then £14 million would seem like a massive bargain.
For now though, lets just allow the teenager to enjoy himself and grow as a footballer at the Portuguese side.
