Manchester United rejected by Manchester City player in this summer transfer window
Manchester United have had a forgettable transfer window so far.
The pain of rejection, as they say, is one of the most disheartening things to swallow — whether it is in the case of a one-sided love story or in any other aspects in this modern society. However, there is a stark contrast between betrayal and rejection.
As per the Tottenham Hostour coach Jose Mourinho, “The betrayal is that I won three leagues for them (Chelsea) and they sacked me.” So, what is about rejection? Can we put both the words on the same ceiling to gauge as they both cause pain to a particular fanbase?
To get a modest idea regarding rejection, we certainly need to peep into the recent sagas surrounding Manchester United, a club that people think is well-equipped enough to spend big even amidst the coronavirus crisis.

So, Manchester United have missed out on the players they targeted as a part of their long-term plans not once but many times in recent times. The first saga that comes to possibly everyone’s mind is that of Erling Braut Haaland.
The next big thing in the Norweigan football, Haaland, was very close to joining Manchester United, at least some close to the club thought so due to the links between him and his former master and compatriot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United’s current manager.
But United’s hesitancy in paying the huge agent fees and inserting a demanding release clause Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, had asked from the club left the Mancunian side empty-handed, with a jolly-faced Haaland moving to Borussia Dortmund, who were ready to accept each and every condition provided by RB Salzburg and his agent.
The next time United faced defeat in signing a widely renowned youngster was not so long ago — it is a tale of this ongoing summer transfer window. Jude Bellingham, a 17-year-old and an up-and-coming superstar, was spotted at the AON training complex with his parents on March 9, 2020. It is believed that he was there, with his family, to spectate and explore the advanced facilities of the training complex.
The rumours also suggest that he was embraced by none other Sir Alex Ferguson, 13-time Premier League champion, and Eric Cantona, a man who went on to win everything with Manchester United during his professional days, at the club. Club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was understandably in continuous talks with the young midfielder, only the Englishman to reject his proposal at the early stage of the transfer window, joining Dortmund on a lucrative wage.
It was then spread out that United chose to back off knowing the high wage demands of the youngster, while it’s also a story that Dortmund’s structure and glorifying past in moulding stars had persuaded the then-Birmingham City player. Well, Dortmund signed him for an initial fee of £25 million, and the chapter got closed there.
Then comes the latest amongst all that has been recently brought to light by Spanish outlet AS (via Sportwitness). It is about Manchester City‘s new summer signing Ferran Torres, the player who has been hailed as one of the best crossers of the ball by his Spanish national team coach, Luis Enrique.
On August 4, 2020, Manchester City announced that they had just signed Torres for an inaugural transfer fee of £20.8 million from Valencia CF. Yet, following the announcement, Torres made some jaw-dropping comments, telling on his first interview after being a Man City player that some “crooked” people inside his former club had forced him out of La Liga side in that way.
What now has been claimed is that Manchester United were also interested in signing the Ferran Torres as an alternative to Jadon Sancho, believed to be the no. 1 priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer. Despite the club holding talks with the Spaniard’s agent, Ferran Torres rejected the offer from the Manchester-based club, owing to the fact that Manchester City had provided him with a better project. And that his how his move to the red side of Manchester fell apart.
If we believe in the rumour hovering in the air, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen on making a move for Jadon Sancho — the club is ready to wait until the last week of the ongoing summer transfer window in an attempt to capture who could be the next to light up the Old Trafford with his magical touch.
Do you think Manchester United will sign Jadon Sancho in this ongoing summer transfer window?
