Manchester United have received a strong message.

There are hymns and songs already written in his name. Murals are being constructed and planned as we speak. In Manchester United the talk is about one man and one man only. Jadon Sancho. He sits at the pinnacle of every fans’ wish.

He has been heralded as the saviour of Man United. The man with the potential to take the club right back to the summit of European and English football. There is an incessant desire for the Borussia Dortmund star to come to Old Trafford. It is a thirst that cannot be quenched. A thought that just won’t go away. A desire that you cannot escape.

But football is not so simple. The nature of business is cut-throat and rather cynical and just because you want something, like anything in life, it doesn’t mean that you will get it.

At the other end of the negotiations between United over Sancho is a stalwart Borussia Dortmund who are staunch in their valuation of their prized asset and are unlikely to budge.

Addressing the media, Dortmund’s chief Hans Joachim Watzke via the Daily Express declared that the club are in no need of selling Jadon Sancho and sent a strong and clear message to Man United.

Watzke said the following.

"“We weren’t in a situation where we had to sell at any cost.”"

His statement is a damning and one that is bound to scupper United’s transfer plans. However, it might be a blessing in disguise.

The Red Devils haven’t really struggled going forward since the emergence of Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes‘ arrival. However defensively, there are still issues that need to be fixed within the club. The defeat against Sevilla highlighted the club’s frailties and it is clear United need to reinforce their defence if they are serious about competing at the highest level and the highest stages.

Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles. Sir Alex Ferguson once famously said and that should be an important adage to follow for the Red Devils. Look at the huge improvement Liverpool made after bringing Virgil Van Dijk to the club.

There are plenty of talented defenders on the market too in the same ilk as Van Dijk who the Red Devils could pounce on.

Would you regret missing out on Jadon Sancho?
